Education and science
Here are some of the projects we are proud of and currently working on. We develop custom digital products for everyone, from start-ups to government agencies.

Orientation Weeks Leiden University
A new city, a new study, a new start. For hundreds of thousands of new students each year, the adventure begins with an introductory week. Zooma built a large system for all starting Leiden students in four agile sprints: six native apps and three extensive backends, to make that experience smoother, smarter and more personal.

BlinkLab
Together with Henk-Jan Boele and other researchers at the prestigious Princeton and Erasmus MC, we explored the limits of the smartphone through the development of BlinkLab.

World Museum
After the Sabi Suriname app for the Wereldmuseum, Zooma was brought in to collaborate on the Tag The Picture project. Zooma built an advanced website with a module in which volunteers can very precisely mark and tag objects on photos. A challenging project for both our front- and backend developers with a fantastic result!

Naturalis
Together with Naturalis, we built a knowledge platform for the taxonomy of pollinators. Through the Pollinator Academy, interested parties can follow modules on the taxonomy of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Hospital Hero
The Hospital Hero concept is a beautiful initiative of Veronique van Noort and Nicole Donkel, two nurses at the pediatric ward of the Willem Alexander Children's Hospital (LUMC). Zooma has been working (proudly!) on this concept since 2020, which also includes experts from Nell, TU Delft and Naturalis. And the best part: more and more hospitals are joining in.

Opnij
Zooma was commissioned by Education Center Opnij to develop the digital version of the EF Plan Agenda. We built a web environment for students and mentors, and added native Android and iOS apps. With links to Magister and Somtoday, all learning tasks for students are imported directly into their plan agenda.

SURF
Commissioned by SURF, the ICT cooperative of education and research, Zooma is developing 'SURFsharekit'; a tool that enables educational institutions to manage and share knowledge materials (e.g. research publications and thesis products).

Leiden University
Zooma designed and developed the website and apps for Leids Universitair Weekblad Mare. The goal of the website is to showcase the articles, photos and drawings in the best possible way. The app was developed to serve regular readers even better. With the app you always have the latest Mare newspaper in your pocket!

LOI
Zooma recently revamped its language course app for LOI, the 'Leidse Onderwijsinstellingen'. The free app was developed to support the beginner courses in English, Spanish, German, French and Italian. With this app, you can learn anytime, anywhere!

Leiden University
How did people speak thousands of years ago? And what did these languages sound like? The Vanished Voices app for Android and iOS answers these questions. This app from Leiden University takes you back in the history of language to 4500 BC.
What we are working on now
We are working on a website with all bees to define images and features.
We apply gamification in an app to reduce tension, anxiety and stress during a hospital visit for children.

Zooma joins Dutch Digital Agencies!
Recently, two of our project managers attended the very first PM Day organized by Dutch Digital Agencies (DDA) in Utrecht. DDA is a new network of similar digital agencies in the Netherlands, focused on sharing knowledge and helping each other improve. For Tom and Thomas, it was a great opportunity to spend an afternoon brainstorming with colleagues about the PM profession.

From Qodana to Storybook.js: Zooma's 'sharing hour' inspires
The 'sharing hour' is an inspiring regular feature at the beginning of every themed get-together at Zooma in which colleagues briefly and powerfully present their recent projects and results. During this informal moment, developers, project leaders, designers and others briefly show what they are proud of; this can vary from completed customer projects, self-thought innovative concepts, to results from special internal sessions such as the Fanatical Friday. The goal is to inspire each other, increase involvement and make clear what everyone within the growing company is working on.
