A Michelin star for churches
Commissioned by Museum Catharijneconvent and design agency Fabrique, Zooma developed an Android audio tour app that makes the hidden church treasures of the Netherlands accessible to everyone. Thirteen extraordinary churches and synagogues now make up one museum! The Largest Museum of the Netherlands:-)
Background
In foreign countries it is quite normal to visit that impressive cathedral. Yet many people in the Netherlands walk past them unnoticed. And that while Dutch churches also house the most beautiful artifacts.
The Grootste Museum van Nederland, an initiative of Museum Catharijne Convent, has opened the doors of thirteen special churches and synagogues to the general public. The hidden church treasures included in magisterial settings.
Museum Catharijneconvent and Fabrique developed the concept, campaign and audio tour. Zooma was engaged to develop the Android audio tour app in combination with beacon technology. A fantastic project, of course!
Android audio tour app
In a simple way, the audio tour tells surprising stories about the interior and artworks, without disturbing the experience. In an innovative way, a 'virtual museum layer' has been added over the Dutch churches.
Using an Android device, visitors can choose from a signposted tour or simply walk around freely. With the help of beacons, visitors receive measured information about the place where they are.
In close cooperation with the team of Fabrique and Museum Catharijneconvent, Zooma developed the audio tour app for the specific Android device in four intensive scrum sprints, installed beacons on location in the churches and carried out extensive tests.
