Commissioned by Leiden University, Zooma has put part of Leiden's history (literally!) on the map. With more than 300 interesting squatting stories and a fascinating city walk along historic buildings, the 'Kraken in Leiden' app brings the squatting history of our key city to life on your smartphone.

Background

Kraken in Leiden is a research project of Leiden University. In newspaper archives, students and teachers discovered a rich history of squatting. Those findings proved easy to translate into an app. So the university knocked on Zooma's door.

Sketches and designs

After an extensive brainstorming session, we first developed the wireframes (sketches) together with the researchers and students. And then we created the design; minimalistic in appearance and intuitive to use.

Development Phase

Next, our Android developers throw themselves into the app itself. They used Mapbox to build a map that was easy to use and did exactly what we wanted. We also built in support for video, audio and images for future versions of the app.

The result

Apps we make for our pleasure, but of course mostly for the users! That is why it is so great that we receive many nice reactions from enthusiasts who share their own (cracking) stories. Download the app and be surprised. Watch the video about the app

Together with Zooma, we created a beautiful app that allows people to discover Leiden's squatting history in a fun way. The cooperation went very smoothly, because Zooma actively thought along and sensed our wishes well.
