From an internship project to something that's actually used

An internship where you build something that actually goes live. That’s what gets us excited here at Zooma—and clearly the students we spoke with, too. At the invitation of Leiden University of Applied Sciences, we took part in the company fair during the internship return day. It was a great opportunity to meet new talent and show them what we’re working on.

While second- and third-year students presented their internship projects, we talked with them about their next steps. Having had positive experiences with previous interns from the university, we had plenty to share. We focused particularly on the opportunities within our own products, Blybahn, Youmie & TMSQR, where there’s room to experiment with new features and technologies.

No concept left on the shelf

At Zooma, we love to build. During an internship, you’ll work on software for the web and mobile, with the goal of seeing your work actually put to use. That’s why we showed students apps on test phones that interns had helped develop. This gave them an immediate sense of the products and how they could contribute.

Blybahn brought that story to life. The first version of the proof of concept was developed during a graduation internship. From an idea on a single sheet of A4 paper to a working product that went live: it was precisely that process that appealed to students.

From design to technical depth

There was a steady stream of visitors at our booth all afternoon. Students checked out the apps, picked up a flyer, and shared their interests. From UX/UI to data science: together, we explored where their specializations aligned with Zooma’s projects and products.

The conversations quickly became in-depth. For example, we received questions about Ktor in our tech stack, and TMSQR caught the attention of future data engineers. This platform is used at more than a hundred festivals and offers, among other things, interactive schedules, festival maps, and tools for analyzing visitor data.

New talent, new ideas

The introduction works both ways. Students discover what they can build at Zooma, while we’re eager to hear how they view our products. For example, we previously worked with students from TU Delft Design on a new look for the TMSQR app. We also support educational tech initiatives such as Technolab and Technasium.

Being back at the place where we once started ourselves made this day extra special. And it was great to hear that some students were already familiar with Zooma. Above all, we hope one thing stuck with them: at Zooma, you get the freedom to create something tangible.
