Better reading comprehension

In collaboration with researchers at Leiden University's Faculty of Social Sciences, Zooma developed the first prototype of the 'Attention App'. The aim of the app is to detect when children lose attention while reading and then help them learn to read more comprehensively.

Measuring brain activity

The headset sends (a lot of) raw data of brain activity into the app.

Android tablet app

First of all, the prototype was developed only for a specific Android tablet.

Real-time connected

While reading, the app continuously monitors the attention span.

Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences approached Zooma to help develop the experimental 'Attention App' app. Very interesting because Zooma likes to collaborate on experimental, technically challenging projects. Previously, we also collaborated on the Kraken in Leiden research in cooperation with scientists from the Faculty of Humanities.

The purpose of the prototype is to use a special headset to measure the level of attention when reading texts where "deep reading" is required to achieve good text comprehension. The reader is given a headset that measures brain activity, and as soon as the reader's attention drops below a certain minimum, the app sends a signal to bring the reader back to attention.
