Why We're Taking This Step

Zooma builds digital products that people rely on every day. For universities, energy companies, the European Union, and many other organizations. And for our own platforms, where hundreds of thousands of users plan their festivals and student associations organize their activities. All of these applications run on servers we rent from a cloud provider. Until recently, those were Microsoft Azure’s European data centers.

Every few years, we reassess which provider best suits our customers, our platforms, and our plans. In doing so, we look beyond just the physical location of the servers. What jurisdiction does the provider fall under? How dependent do we become on a single supplier? And how easily can we switch providers if that ever becomes necessary? For the organizations we work for, these are increasingly important questions. For us, too.

Based on these considerations, we chose Scaleway, a European cloud provider with data centers in Europe. Scaleway focuses on giving you control over your own data and systems, and on technology that works with other providers as well. That aligns with how we build: so that we—and our clients—continue to determine where and how software runs.

A Lot of Work You Don’t See

A migration of this scale requires careful preparation and extensive testing. We’re migrating all environments step by step to ensure that apps, websites, and integrations continue to work as you’re accustomed to. We’ll complete this process in September and October.

Our team is putting a lot of time and attention into this. But our customers and their app and website users won’t notice a thing—and that’s exactly the point. It’s behind-the-scenes work we’re proud of, and it lays the foundation for everything we’ll build in the coming years.

Information security remains the foundation

In addition to our hosting solution, we continue to invest in information security and independent audits. Zooma has been ISO 27001-certified for years—the international standard for information security.

In addition, we have our platforms regularly tested by external specialists. During these penetration tests, they look for vulnerabilities so that we can resolve them before anyone else finds them. European hosting, ISO 27001, and regular penetration tests: together, they form the foundation of everything we deliver.
